Pengertian Spoof Text
Spoof text adalah salah satu jenis teks bahasa Inggris yang di bagian akhir ceritanya terdapat sebuah twist atau kejutan yang lucu. Kejutan yang ada di akhir bagian cerita ini merupakan sebuah kejutan yang tidak diduga-duga oleh pembaca. Nah, dalam bahasa Inggris, spoof text juga dikenal dengan berbagai macam nama, seperti humor, anecdote, joke, parody, atau funny story.
Tujuan dari spoof text tersendiri adalah untuk menghibur pembaca dan pendengarnya. Oh iya, spoof text sendiri memiliki tiga jenis berdasarkan bagian akhir ceritanya. Yang pertama adalah spoof text jenis humorous twist. Jenis spoof text ini memiliki bagian kejutan yang menyenangkan, mengharukan, menyejukkan hati dan lucu. Biasanya jenis ini juga disebut dengan lighthearted twist karena begitu menyenangkan.
Jenis kedua adalah jenis ironic twist. Berdasarkan artinya, jenis spoof text ini memiliki bagian akhir yang ironis atau menunjukkan sisi gelap dari sesuatu hal atau dari sifat alamiah manusia. Meskipun spoof text lucu, terkadang sesuatu yang membuat lucu tidak hanya dari hal yang menyenangkan saja. Tetapi juga bisa saja dari hal yang sebaliknya.
Jenis spoof text yang ketiga adalah jenis misconception twist. Nah, pada jenis spoof text ini, narrator memberikan informasi yang keliru yang sudah dibangun sejak awal dan memiliki akhir yang tidak terduga yang membuat pembaca atau pendengarnya memiliki pemahaman atau persepsi yang keliru.
Generic Structure Spoof Text
Seperti teks bahasa Inggris pada umumnya, spoof text memiliki generic structure atau struktur yang berfungsi untuk membuat tulisan menjadi mudah terbaca. Generic structure spoof text adalah sebagai berikut:
Orientation : bagian yang menceritakan tentang pengenalan tokoh, latar tempat, waktu dan lain-lain.
Events : bagian yang menceritakan tentang kejadian yang masih dalam keadaan wajar.
Twist : bagian yang menceritakan tentang kejadian yang berlawanan dengan events atau kejadian yang tidak diduga-duga, tidak disangka-sangka dan bersifat lucu.
Kaidah Kebahasaan Spoof Text
Dalam spoof text, terdapat kaidah kebahaasaan sebagai berikut:
- Menggunakan kalimat past tense (ran, bought, called, played, dan lain-lain.)
- Menggunakan action verbs (run, cut, jump, dan lain-lain.)
- Menggunakan adverb of time dan adverb of place
- Diceritakan secara kronologis atau berurutan

Contoh Spoof Text
Bad Dream
Once there was a couple sleeping. The wife had a bad dream. She woke up and was scared and cried.
Her husband tried to comfort her and asked why she cried. Then she replied: “I had a dream that a very rich and handsome man kidnapped me from you.” Hearing his wife answer, the husband said: “It’s okay, Honey, it was just a dream.”
Immediately the wife responded loudly: “That is why I’m crying.”
Substituting Teacher
A girl was substituting as a teacher for her friend. She figured that it would be best if she wrote everything on the board for the kids, so it would be easier for them to understand.
During math class, she said to the class, “Ok class, it is time for your math test. I will write the problems for the test on the board.” So she did it, and they took the test.
Later in science, she said to the class, “I will write the questions for your science assignment on the board.” So she did and they took the test.
Then later in spelling, she said to the class, “Class, I will write the words for your spelling test on the board.”
Counting Donkeys
One day Abu Ali went to the fair and bought nine donkeys. He rode home on one of them the rest of the donkeys followed behind.
After a while, Abu Ali said to himself, “I must make sure all my donkeys are here.” And he turned round to count them.
“One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Oh! Where’s number nine?” Abu Ali cried
He jumped down from his donkey. He looked behind the rocks and behind the trees. But there was no donkey to be seen.
“I’ll count them again,” Abu Ali said. “One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. Oh, he must have come back.”
So Abu Ali climbed back onto the donkey and trotted away.
After a while, he counted his donkeys again. He counted only eight! Once more he looked behind the rocks and behind the trees. But there was no donkey to be seen.
“I will count again,” he said, and this time there were nine.
Just then Abu Ali saw his friend Musa walking along the road. “Musa,” he called. “Help me to count my donkeys. I keep losing one. When I stop to count I have only eight, but when I get down looking for the ninth, there he is again!”
“Well, I can see ten donkeys, Abu Ali,” laughed Musa. “And the tenth donkey’s name is Abu Ali.”
What Time Is It?
A tramp lay down and slept in the park. He had been sleeping for about 5 minutes when a couple walked by. The man stopped, woke the tramp up, and asked him, “Excuse me. Do you know what the time is?” The tramp replied, “I’m sorry – I don’t have a watch, so I don’t know the time.”
The man apologized for waking the tramp and the couple walked away.
The tramp lay down again, and after a few minutes went back to sleep. Just then, a woman, who was out walking her dog, shook the tramp’s shoulder until he woke up again.
The woman said, “I’m sorry to trouble you, but I’m afraid I’ve lost my watch – do you happen to know the time?” The tramp was a little annoyed at being woken up again, but he politely told the woman that he didn’t have a watch and didn’t know the time.
After the woman had gone, the tramp had an idea.
He opened the bag that contained all his possessions and got out a pen, a piece of paper, and some string. On the paper, he wrote down, ‘I do not have a watch. I do not know the time.’
He then hung the paper around his neck and eventually dropped it off again.
After about 15 minutes, a policeman who was walking through the park noticed the tramp asleep on the bench, and the sign around his neck.
He woke the tramp up and said, “I read your sign. I thought you’d like to know that it’s 2:30 p.m.”
Half Day
One day there was a class of kids at school. They were having a hard time concentrating on the work because it was snowing so hard outside. They were just waiting for that blessed announcement of the rest of the day off.
Suddenly, the intercom beeped and they heard the voice of their principal; “Attention, students. Due to the weather conditions, we will only be attending school half of the day this morning.”
After all the students’ cheers had stopped, the principal continued; “And we will be attending the other half this afternoon.”
